About Me
I started my training at Somerset College of Art and Technology with a BTEC National Diploma in General Art and Design, finishing this in July 1994. Then went on to study for a BA(Hons) Arts and Humanities Degree in Fine Art at De Montfort University in Leicester.
Upon finishing my degree in 1997, I went in to the retail industry full-time, utilising all my expertise in colour and design for visual merchandising and window displays.
After many years I realised how much I missed painting and my time in the studio. So after some great opportunities, Chris, my husband and I moved, and changed our pace of life. We now live in the Forest of Dean and feel so happy we made those choices, when we did.
Inspiration for me, comes from the plants with their scent, a change in the weather or in the seasons. All these observations use my love and passion for colour and shape, and this connection has always been at the heart of my artwork. In my paintings, I paint less with realism in nature, and more with the creation of the sculptural marks that are made between the lines and the outlines through the paint and my feelings from being in the landscape. Utilising sprayed paint, in oil and acrylic, I work with and encourage the paint to interact and blend in to the surface and through this technique the textures are enhanced and this highlights the landscape I am working with in my finished painting.
I am an active member of farOpen, hArt and Forest Markets within my local area, follow these links to see more about these events. I enjoy opportunities to work with like minded people and support the groups with volunteering whenever possible. I believe it is important to share time and ideas, to work in a community of artists supporting artists.
This year, I was accepted into and participated in an Artist Residency at Brison Veor in Cape Cornwall—a fantastic opportunity to paint on the dramatic Cornish cliffs and coastline. I am also working closely with the Dean Heritage Centre on a new project, "Inspired by the Forest," after one of my paintings was publicly selected for inclusion. The project will be showcased throughout Gloucestershire. Keep following me for the latest updates on these recent projects.
